Junior Coaching
The Queensland Tennis Centre is a proud deliverer of Active Tribes Tennis Coaching, catering for children and teens aged four to 17.
Term 3 Coaching begins from Monday 12 July.
The Active Tribes coaching programs have already commenced for the season, however; it is not too late to join in! We are still accepting enrolments over the phone, on 1300 292 011, or over the counter at the Queensland Tennis Centre Pro Shop.
Classes are divided into player standards - Simply choose the class most suitable for your child:
Level 1: Aussie Mozzie (4-7 years)
Exciting, challenging and fun, Aussie Mozzie is Australia's latest modified tennis program for children aged 4-7 years. Aussie Mozzie is the perfect introduction to tennis, as each child will learn basic stroke technique and ball skills. Importantly, the program will also enhance your child's motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, balance, movement and spatial awareness.
There are two Aussie Mozzie levels available:
Level 1.a: Aussie Mozzie – White (30 mins)
With a coach to pupil ratio of 1:4, this Aussie Mozzie program will provide your child with introductory tennis skills while also helping them to develop interpersonal and social skills. Level 1.b: Aussie Mozzie – Red (1hr)
This program, which is a progression from the 30min Aussie Mozzie class, is designed to fast track your child’s tennis development to a junior fixtures level. The Aussie Mozzie (Red) class is a one-hour program combining coaching and game play into one fun and challenging session, with a coach to pupil ratio of 1:6. Your child will be elevated from the Aussie Mozzie (White) program into this higher level upon their coach’s recommendation. Click here for dates and prices.
Level 2: Junior Development – Beginner (7-13 years)
This program is designed for kids aged 7-13 years and gives them the basic fundamentals of tennis coaching, teaching correct technique, footwork and ball control. Classes run for an hour each week with a maximum of eight students per class. Click here for dates and prices.
Level 3: Junior Development – Intermediate (7-13 years)
A progression from the beginner program, the intermediate junior group for kids aged 7-13 continues to work on refining your child's technique while they also begin to learn basic strategies of the game. Classes run for an hour each week with a maximum of eight students per class. Click here for dates and prices.
Level 4: Junior Development - Advanced (7-13 years)
With a maximum of 6 students per class, the advanced junior group class is the perfect class for young players who are looking for further refinements on their technique to help prepare them for the transition to a squad-based program. This class will have a strong focus on game play strategies, court movement and structured play. Click here for dates and prices.
Level 5: Development Squad (9-15 years)
Utilising two courts, this squad program will bring out the best in any aspiring tennis player and is extremely popular with developing players. The program integrates court movement activities and on-court drills with strategy and set play, and players are placed into classes with other students of equal ability. The Junior Squad runs for one and a half hours each week, and is offered during the school term with a coach to pupil ratio of 1:8. Click here for dates and prices.
Level 6: Performance Squad (10-17 years)
Upon coach assessment, students can move into the Performance Squad and gain the skills necessary to take their competitive game to the next level and aim to be a strong contender in state junior tournaments. Students will master advanced stroke techniques and competitive game play skills. The Performance Squad runs for two hours with a coach to pupil ratio of 1:8. Level 7: High Performance Squad (12-17 years)
The High Performance squad is a two hour per week training program designed to attract the top young players aged 12 years and older. Carefully designed to incorporate the latest methods used by Tennis Australia's High Performance Program, the squad aims to accelerate a player's development with a focus on refining the skills necessary to achieve tournament success. Students can only enrol in this class upon a coach assessment, with most students likely to hold an Australian ranking and be a regular player in state and national tournaments to be eligible for this class. The High Performance squad has a coach to pupil ratio of 1:6 to maximise individual attention. It is recommended students attend the class twice a week. Click here for dates and prices.
Support Programs
These additional support programs provide excellent opportunities for young players aged 4 - 17 to accelerate their tennis development. By complementing their regular coaching sessions with one of these specialist development programs, aspiring young tennis stars boost key physical skills outside of fundamental stroke technique and match play so that they can be stronger performers in not only tennis, but any sport or physical activity.
PMP (Motor Skills) (4-13 years)
PMP (Motor Skills) is a specially designed program to enhance children’s fundamental perceptual motor skills. The session complements the Aussie Mozzie, Junior Beginner and Intermediate programs. Through fun games and challenging activities, participants will enhance their racquet skills, hand eye coordination, locomotor skills and much more! Tailored to skill and development levels, this program is a must for any young player keen to fast track their tennis development. Click here for dates and prices.
Athletic Development (Physical Session) (7-15 years)
Athletic Development is a complementary session to our Junior and Grand Slam squads. Athletes will be exposed to cutting edge tennis-specific physical activities focussing on speed/agility, strength/power, injury prevention and more.
