Junior Coaching
The Queensland Tennis Centre provides children and teenagers aged 3 to 17 years with high quality tennis coaching programs to suit any standard from beginner to aspiring pro. With small coach to pupil ratios, our junior group coaching classes ensure students receive personalised attention to maximise their skill development.
The friendly and nationally accredited coaches at the Queensland Tennis Centre are proud deliverers of QTC Junior Coaching. This is aligned with Tennis Australia’s MLC Hot Shots philosophy of using modified courts and balls to give children the chance to serve, rally and score from the early stages of their tennis development.
Term 3 Junior Group Coaching Courses commence Monday 8th July 2013.
Please note: Scheduled classes will only run if a minimum of 4 people are enrolled in each class.

Red Ball (3-7 years)
Exciting, challenging and fun, Red Ball programs are Australia's modified tennis programs for children aged 3-7 years. Red Ball programs are the perfect introduction to tennis, as children learn basic stroke technique and ball skills. Importantly, the program will also enhance your child's motor skills such as hand-eye coordination, balance, movement and spatial awareness.
There are four Red Ball programs on offer:
Red Minis (3-4 years)
Red Minis is specially designed to enhance children’s fundamental perceptual motor skills. Through fun games and challenging activities players learn fundamental motor skills such as movement, balance, throwing, catching, tracking and striking! View dates and prices.
Red 1 (formerly 'Red A') (4-5 years) Entry point for first-time players
This 30-minute program provides your child with introductory tennis skills while also helping them to develop interpersonal and social skills. Children will learn all the basic tennis strokes, including how to serve, rally and score. Plus all new students receive a FREE Prince tennis racquet when they join for the first time! Red 2 (formerly 'Red A2') (4-6 years)
This 45-minute program teaches your child to refine their skills with greater focus on shot selection, technique and rally. There is a strong focus on serve technique in this program. View dates and prices.
Red PRO ** (6-7 years) Entry in to these classes is by coach recommendation only
The Red PRO program is a one-hour class combining coaching and game play into a fun and challenging session, with a coach to pupil ratio of 1:6. Your child will be elevated from the Red A program in to this higher level upon their coach’s recommendation. View dates and prices.
Orange Ball (7 - 10 years)
Orange 1 (formerly 'Junior Beginner') (7-10 years) Entry point for first-time players
This program gives children the basic fundamentals of tennis coaching, including all basic tennis strokes. Players also learn how to serve, rally and score. Classes run for an hour each week with a maximum of six students per class. View dates and prices.
Orange 2 (7-10 years)
This one-hour class teaches your child to refine tennis strokes they have learnt in Orange 1. There is a greater focus on ground strokes to execute the basic tactical fundamentals of tennis as more rally-based drills and serve and return exercises are included in these classes.
Orange PRO ** (7-10 years) Entry in to these classes is by coach recommendation only
In this program players learn more advanced shot selection and point construction through extensive point play. Different types of spin are also introduced! View dates and prices.
Green Ball (9-12 years)
Green 1 (formerly 'Junior Intermediate') (9-12 years)
A progression from the Beginner class, players learn consistency, hitting to different targets, and are introduced to playing with a variety of spin. Players learn to approach the net. More serve and return activities are incorporated at this level. Classes run for an hour each week with a maximum of six students per class. View dates and prices.
Green 2 (formerly 'Junior Advanced') (9-12 years)
With a maximum of 6 players per class, the Advanced course allows players to further refine their technique with a strong focus on game play strategies, court movement and structured play. The Advanced course is the perfect class to help prepare young players transition in to a squad-based program. View dates and prices.
Green PRO (formerly 'Junior Advanced PRO') ** (9-12 years) Entry in to these classes is by coach recommendation only
During this course players improve court mobility through footwork and movement drills, develop net game and improve their understanding of spin and speed in shot selection. Serve is also developed as a main weapon. View dates and prices.
Yellow Ball (9-17 years)
Junior Development Squad (9-15 years)
In the Junior Development Squad players learn to rally, attack, defend and control the ball with different spins. Players learn both singles and doubles strategy. View dates and prices.
Junior Development Squad PRO ** (10-15 years) Entry in to these classes is by coach recommendation only
A tactically-based theme is introduced each week during this program so that players can further develop and enhance their competive edge. Serve and return are concentrated on throughout the entire term and players in this program will have access to a roaming Sports Psychologist. View dates and prices.
Junior Performance Squad (10-17 years)
In the Junior Performance Squads sessions are designed to develop areas of game relevant to each individual and their specific strengths, weaknesses and game style. Two lessons a week are recommended. View dates and prices.
Junior Performance Squad PRO ** (12-17 years) Entry in to these classes is by coach recommendation only
Top players who participate in Junior Performance Squad will undergo advanced tennis training incorporating sports psychology and video analysis sessions. Individual competition programs are developed for each player. View dates and prices.
